EDS - a role for Conservative Future?
In the last week I had the pleasure of being invited to a European Democrat Student event in Budapest. There, I got to meet fellow Young Conservatives belonging to centre-right parties from across Europe. What I found was a vibrant group, full of energy and passion for conservative causes, with a real voice on the European political scene.
Tories retain by-election seat
The Conservative Party has retained a key Burton seat during a council by-election. Following the incumbent's resignation, a by-election had been called for Valentine's Day, with the Conservatives putting forwards local businessman Len Milner for the Stretton ward seat. The Party was out in force to ensure Len cruised to victory, with Andrew Griffiths (PPC for Burton & Uttoxeter) and Matthew Lewis, the incoming Staffs CF Area Chairman, both present.
'Why I'm Standing for NME'
Conservative Home's CF Diary is once again running a series of pieces entitled 'Why I'm Standing' in which candidates for the NME and National Chairman roles can outline in 400-600 words exactly why there are standing for election, what motivates them, and what they would hope to achieve during their term in office.
New CF branch launched in Cannock Chase
After several months of hard work, a new Conservative Future branch has finally launched in Cannock Chase, Staffordshire. The branch, in a Labour dominated area, is a continuation of the revival of the Conservative Party within the county over the past couple of years. Craig Bougen has been appointed the branch's inaugural Chairman.
Lewis confirmed as new Staffordshire Area CF Chairman
Matt Lewis has today been confirmed as the new Area CF Chairman for Staffordshire. He replaces Owen Meredith, to whom he has been Deputy Chairman for the past two years. Although the official handover will take place at March's Spring Forum, Lewis is keen to get under way and has already begun the organisation of an Area Committee, formed of the county's branch chairmen.
Change of Direction for CF4B
Conservative Future 4 Britain (CF4B) founder Thomas Wales has taken the decision to radically alter the format of the group; it will no longer expressly back candidates in the forthcoming elections, but will instead be an open-to-all forum enabling CF members to discuss the elections, and any other CF or National Party goings-on.
CF Election grumbles
NME campaigning finally seems to be coming to life, with various candidates flinging their hats in to the ring, two groups promising major improvements to CF nationally have been formed, and three brave young men standing up and offering themselves as Chairman. So far campaigning has been mostly good natured. However, there have been a few snipes and grumbles, so I'm going to offer my two-cent's worth.
